A Literacy Leadership team has been established to review our current reading and writing models along with the various programs and resources implemented in our elementary schools. The goal is to develop a new K-5 Literacy Model that will provide a balanced, integrated approach to reading and language arts instruction. YCSD system upgrades, which will be in place for the 2013-2014 school year, will no longer support Accelerated Reader and STAR programs currently in elementary schools. The Literacy Leadership Team will identify alternate reading assessment tools for use while the new K-5 Literacy Model is finalized and will consider the programs that will be included in the new model. Please be assured that our teachers will continue to encourage students to explore and read a variety of appropriate books, and they will use multiple measures to monitor and assess students’ reading progress. The success of our students has been possible because teachers, parents, and community members work together to ensure all students reach their fullest potential. YCSD will continue building on the foundation of excellence and hope you will continue to partner with us to ensure continued student success. ______________________________________ Week of April 22 - 26 Important Dates April 23 – Math: Money Test Race Dates: April 24 - Race 1 May 1 - Race 2 May 8 - Race 3 May 15 - Race 4 May 22 - Race 5 Math Our next unit is time. I did some research on the videos we've made and I think I've figured out how to fix the sound on the ones that have a warped sound. I'll try to update those before the week is up! Take a look at the SOL Review site to see the ones that have been posted! I'm very proud of the work the kids have created! My plan for language arts for the next few weeks is to incorporate science and social studies into the lessons. The 3rd grade SOLs include information from 2nd grade, so we will be reading about science and social studies topics that the students will need to remember from 2nd grade. There is a science SOL Review Book that we've made for the students. This book MUST come to school each day because we will use it to work and to review. The students will work out of this book for the next four weeks. At the end of four weeks, I will distribute the Social Studies Review Book. Spelling Our focus in spelling is switching to vocabulary.
